Your vehicles heating system, whether old or new, is not just there for comfort, but for safety. Your vehicle generates heat just by running the engine, and the combination antifreeze coolant, water pump and radiator expel the heat. To warm your car, the heater core draws heat from the cooling system. This hot coolant fills the heater core (imagine a miniature radiator under your dash) and the blower fan pushes the radiating heat from the core to your vents.
